The Global Entry Program permits the regular travelers, who are not considered much of a risk to the CBP officers, and they can directly claim their baggage after an appointment with the kiosk. Till recent times in maximum airports, the Global Entry points have scanners that scan the passport and fingerprint of the traveler before they get a clearance to enter the country.
Furthermore, CBP will start using the technology of facial biometric as it will make their work easy, and it is a better way to check the identity of the traveler. The facial biometric will also eradicate the necessity of using a passport or the fingerprint.
At the initial stage, CBP first executed their facial recognition for the Global Entry in June 2018 at Orlando International Airport with the help of a pilot program. Recently, facial recognition has been implemented to at least 14 more airports that comprise of one in Bahamas and two in Ireland. Moreover, facial recognition also can become a common feature in the Global Entry in the near future.
The kiosks utilized for the Global Entry Program have cameras and can take pictures of travelers. But most of the cameras need to be either upgraded or replaced according to the necessity of the program. With the expansion of facial recognition, the kiosks that are already there will have to use the technology. Moreover, CBP is also planning to give notice about maintaining the privacy of the travelers and also inform tourists about the upgraded machines.
