There are several ways in which civic engagement can help communities improve, like :
Stay updated with local news
Citizens who receive less coverage have a harder time evaluating their members of Congress, are less inclined to express thoughts on House candidates in their districts and are less likely to vote. This is true for people of all political awareness levels. People can keep connected to local news in today's digital age by reading the news, listening to podcasts, listening to public radio, and more. Those that use the holy trinity of social media platforms can use these strong tools to keep up with local news and elected authorities.
Support community-based organizations
People can assist local community organizations in fighting for a problem they care about, such as racism, biking, corporate sustainability, homelessness, mobility, pay gap, resiliency, or water pollution. People who work for community-based organizations are passionate about these concerns. They are actively working every day to create small adjustments that will improve the quality of life for other citizens. It is one of the most selfless and long-lasting types of civic involvement that can bring about good long-term change.
Voting
Voting is one of the most effective ways for people to engage in and improve their communities. It is no secret that long-term change occurs from the ground up, and when people vote, they are electing to have a role in how their community grows.
