Las Vegas, NV: Government agencies are increasingly turning to unmanned aerial systems (UAS) to enhance public safety, infrastructure monitoring, emergency response, and mission efficiency. As adoption accelerates, agencies must navigate evolving regulations, procurement considerations, and technology advancements. Commercial UAV Expo 2026 brought together government leaders, operators, regulators, and technology providers to address these challenges and explore the future of drone-enabled public sector operations.
Held from September 1–3, 2026, at Caesars Forum in Las Vegas, the event attracted 3,800 verified professionals from all 50 U.S. states and 65 countries, along with more than 250 exhibiting companies. The record participation highlighted the growing demand among government and enterprise users for practical guidance as the commercial drone ecosystem undergoes significant regulatory and technological change.
A major focus of the event was the impact of changing regulatory frameworks on government drone programs. Discussions examined the FAA’s Part 108 rulemaking process, FCC Covered List requirements affecting UAS procurement decisions, and other compliance considerations influencing how agencies evaluate drone platforms, operational models, and technology partners.
Regulatory experts from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) participated in sessions focused on advanced aviation integration, beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations, and the future of drone regulations. These discussions provided government stakeholders with insights into how emerging policies may influence public sector missions and the broader adoption of autonomous aviation technologies.
The conference program featured more than 140 speakers across over 50 sessions, addressing critical areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, workforce development, and industry-specific drone applications. For government organizations, these discussions highlighted opportunities to leverage drones for emergency response, infrastructure inspection, environmental monitoring, transportation management, and operational intelligence.
Public safety remained a key theme throughout the event. The DRONERESPONDERS Public Safety Summit provided specialized education for first responders and government agencies, focusing on effective drone deployment strategies, program management, and operational best practices. The event also recognized public safety leadership through the Eric Talley Public Safety UAS Excellence Award, presented to Greg Whiting of the Texas Military Department for his contributions to UAS operations and training.
The exhibition floor showcased a growing ecosystem of drone hardware, software, sensors, and service providers supporting government missions. Companies demonstrated solutions designed to improve situational awareness, autonomous capabilities, data collection, and mission execution, reinforcing the role of UAS technology as a strategic capability for public sector organizations.
As government agencies continue modernizing their technology infrastructure, successful drone adoption will depend on balancing innovation, regulatory compliance, cybersecurity, and operational readiness.
