AI has already been integrated into numerous cloud platforms and can be used to discover new pieces of information to deliver the outcomes instantly. Artificial intelligence is all about making best, informed decisions, and automating those decisions. Especially the government sector can vastly leverage the technology’s potential for more efficient and citizen-friendly operations. The private sector is already implementing AI-based chatbots to automate and improve the customer service experiences. This technology can have plenty of AI-based applications in the government sectors too. Applying machine learning to everyday work can enable the government to make better decisions quickly and accurately.
Before implementing AI solutions into the government agencies, first, they have to differentiate the tasks that should be performed by humans and AI. There is a widespread notion that governments do not respond in time, are slow on the uptake, and even slower in delivering the services. Due to the constrained budget, governments might be unable to have the funds and skilled humans for the areas required.

In New Zealand, Smart Start, a predictive service provider offers personalized information from all the government bodies to the parents. This application allows the citizens to fill various forms and can apply to all the certificates from the mobile. This feature eliminates from going to different government sectors for the documents. Georgia’s chief technology officer, Steve Nichols, says that the state department of human services will implement chatbots to answer some of the routine questions that are currently handled by human operators. Criminal justice and public safety are the other areas where AI can play a crucial role. Image recognition software has searched through thousands of images and videos that are captured during the detonation site to find the clues during the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. This was the initiation of implementing AI in such cases and has brought huge transformations in the public safety sectors by the government. AI can effectively improve the areas such as healthcare, education, poverty, and security. In Malaysia, a surveillance system is developed in the prisons by the police department and National ICT agency to detect and predict the prisoners’ aggressive behavior and escape attempts. This also records the police behavior with inmates.
AI might take the government under its control in the next few decades; however, there is no need for that long a wait to reap its positive influences across the governments. With the advent of AI, governments have become more accountable and approachable with more access. The focus of AI shouldn’t be limited to the cool home gadgets or process optimization. It can be utilized to achieve a much bigger role of rethinking how the world’s issues can be mitigated.
