MAY-JUNE, 20176GOVERNMENT CIO OUTLOOKEDITORIALWhen Technology Becomes Savior`The best defense is a good offense'--if this adage bespeaks the being-safe mentality against any plausible terrorist attack or vital cyber-breach, a new kind of retaliation is poised, powered by brain and enabled by technology--`Electronic Warfare'. For instance, 2016 has seen one of the worst political espionage to epitomize that government hacking is going mainstream when U.S. election was reckoned to be coerced by overseas force. And as 2017 unveils, these cyber-terrorists are equipping themselves with rich noetic capital to perpetrate the walls of some antiquated U.S. government buildings, beyond which lies humungous amount of valuable information assets. It's high time for agencies to relinquish their legacy practices that have remarkably failed in showing zero tolerance against data-compromises or tardy turn-around times, and adopt defensive measures which can contemplate a potential attack.Nevertheless, one common factor links the previous gunpowder arsenal to current intellectual armory to help governments; an army of private enterprises with innovative solutions that make the defense more impactful. Incited by voracious government needs, these booming businesses boast of a nexus of cutting-edge products designed to perform new functionalities.Last year, the Dept. of Homeland Security has initiated new cyber-security programs--ranging from malware-analysis tools to behavior-analysis platforms, to randomization software for protecting widely used software applications--to be developed under federal grants into commercial products. The approach by U.S. government to shake hands with private sector to strengthen the keepers and operators of crucial information using all the kinds of neutralizers--to oppress any kind of penetration--shows vital signs of public data assurance. With initiatives like this under progress, Government CIO Outlook makes an effort to discern security solution providers who are equipped to vehemently face-off any impending breach and mitigate high-value risks. We hope the insights from the industry pundits and the cutting-edge solutions from companies featured in this special edition would help you enhance your security strategies.Copyright © 2017 Valley Media, Inc.
